After hearing countless extraordinary stories as a social worker and mental health therapist, Joyce retired and writes her own made-up tales. She laughed when her husband suggested she write a book. What did she know about writing? But in retrospect, she’d been writing short pieces and journaling since she could remember. A year later, she finished her first romance. That book, Amaryllis, became a 2015 RWA Hearts through History winner.
Historical romance, romantic suspense, and cozy mysteries are her bailiwick. Her books feature lively, determined women who are unafraid to challenge the status quo or confront a perplexing and often dangerous mystery.
Her love of books began as a child in Minnesota. To this day, the public library is still one of her favorite places. Books clutter her coffee table and nightstand while her digital library continues to grow. Stories about ancient and contemporary India hold a particular fascination for her. Literary fiction mixed with non-fiction, biography and thrillers are frequent story choices, but by far, mystery is her greatest pursuit. Trixie Belden, girl sleuth, gets credit for starting Joyce on the road to mystery series.
When Joyce isn’t reading or writing, she likes to swim, walk and finds baking almost as relaxing as a day at the spa. Schools and job changes prompted moves to Illinois, Wisconsin, Oregon and Nevada. Not wishing to ignore the South, she has wintered often in Florida. When she isn’t traveling, she can be found with her husband and a sweet little dog at home in Minnesota, in her own little house on the prairie.
